important tips for excel

I know that there are a lot of people these days that are not too fond of Excel. I am not sure whether that’s because they find it to be too daunting, potentially boring, or whatever the other reason may be.

Although no one can blame you for feeling this way, the truth is, at the end of the day, Excel is still a program that’s very high in demand, hence it’s always a good idea to get yourself familiar with its basics.

You do not need to become a pro by any means, but it definitely doesn’t hurt to know something about it. If you share my opinion, and you could use some helpful tips, then pay attention to this useful info below.

Simplify Your Access To Toolbar

It doesn’t matter what version of Excel you downloaded, what you’ll notice is that every single one of them comes with a limitless array of tools within your reach. But what I’ve concluded when talking to the beginners, is that a lot of them employ only a couple of these continuously.

Now, if that’s the case with you, and you would like to simplify this process and make it simpler, then I would advise you to add your personal favorites to the Quick Access Toolbar. Luckily, this isn’t anything that’s demanding.

On the contrary. In fact, Microsoft provides several ways to execute this, however, if you ask me, the simplest one is to right-click on what you want to add and then just select “Add to Quick Access Toolbar”.

Once you add everything that you most frequently utilize, you can focus on rearranging your QAT shortcuts by simply right-clicking on it and then selecting “Customize Quick Access Toolbar” that’s in the menu.

Now, here’s another useful advice. Namely, broken links in Excel are one of the most common problems when it comes to this problem. And that’s something that can be seriously nerve-racking, particularly, if you’re dealing with some deadlines.

But what’s causing this, you’re probably wondering? There are two answers to this question. While working in this program, at times, cells are connected to the other files that have data in them and when these files are moved or deleted, then you’ll be facing broken links that would interfere with the progression of the spreadsheet work.

The simplest way to find these links is by employing the strategy of Find and Replace. So for starters, you should click Ctrl+F to begin this action. Then choose Options in the dialog box. In the Find What designated field you should enter the file extension linked and in the Within designated field, pick Workbook.

And the final step is to choose the option of Formulas in the Look in the designated field and that’s about it.

In a vast majority of Office applications, all you have to do is to paste your URL, and it will instantly become clickable, or active, however, if you are using a newer version of this program, then you’ll have to do things a bit differently.

You must double-click into a cell if you want the URL that you pasted to become active. The hyperlink dialog box that’s in this program allows you to link to a URL, cloud file location, an existing file location, a new file, or an email address.

Learn How To Filter Data

The truth is, nobody loves to deal with a bunch of data, but sometimes, you simply have no other choice. Fortunately, precisely this program is here to help you handle it in the most efficient way, which is probably one of the main reasons why it is frequently used in different sorts of companies all around the world.

If you would like to learn how to do this, then you should start with the Sort & Filter option. This is the best thing that you can do because it enables you to rearrange and summarize all your data in a simple, yet effective way that’s going to be of huge help.

In order to do this, you must highlight all the data that you want to include in the filter (Ctrl + A is the fastest way) and then press the funnel icon that’s in the top left of the Home ribbon. You will notice a drop-down arrow that’s at the top of every column in the filter.

I know that there are numerous beneficial tasks that you can do in Excel that are going to streamline everything that you do, however, today, I decided to discuss the ones that are probably the most essential.
